Targets Destroyed India Successfully Test-Fired MRSAM Air Defense Missile 2022

The air-to-air MRSAM Missile System was successfully test-fired by DRDO.  This test was conducted on Sunday at 10:15 am. The MRSAM missile was tested in the integrated test range Balasore coast of Odisha.  According to a DRDO official, the missile fired from the MRSAM missile system covered a long range and destroyed a high-speed air target at once time.  The MRSAM Missile System can easily destroy missiles of an approaching range of 70 km.  This missile is capable of easily destroying fighter aircraft.  DRDL Hyderabad and DRDO have jointly built a missile system in collaboration with Israel.  The system also has a combat management system, advanced long-range radar, mobile launcher, command and control along with interceptor, reloader vehicles, and field service vehicles.  The test-fired missile is a part of the army arsenal and scored a direct hit.  DRDO confirms the complete development test of the MRSAM Army variant.  The missile system has a strike range of nearly 100 KM.  It can carry a 60 kg payload, a 4.5-meter long, supersonic missile weighs around 2.7 tonnes, and can travel at Mach- 2.

What is the MRSAM Army missile flight system?

Designed to provide the armed forces with air defense capabilities against a variety of aerial threats at medium ranges. Each weapon system comprises one command and control system, one tracking radar, missile, and mobile launcher system. The Mobile launcher is used to transport, emplace and launch up to eight missiles in two stacks.  It can fire the missiles in single or ripple firing modes from the vertical firing position.  It recognizes and tracks the threat using tracking radar.  The system calculates the distance between the target and the launcher very easily.  It then determines if the identified target is a friend or a foe.  The target information is then transmitted to the mobile launcher.  One of the variants of this missile has already been handed over to the Air force.  The MRSAM Missile system was first tested in December 2020.
