Dozens of people have died after heavy rains in China’s Henan province and even the danger of dam breaking is looming. On Tuesday 20 July 2021, a number of vehicles were badly stuck on roads and cities following heavy rain in the city of Zhengzhou in Henan Province, central China. Both Henan province and Zhengzhou municipality meteorological department have stepped up the emergency response to the flood.
On Wednesday, the local government reported that heavy rains in central China’s Henan province killed 12 people in its capital Zhengzhou and sent about 100,000 people to the safe region. China province and its capital Zhengzhou have been badly affected after unusually heavy rains, where dozens of people have also died, Henan province is in the grip of storms due to uneven weather conditions, as a result of which the mouth of the river is in spate. Dozens of roads have been flooded, affecting the daily lives of millions.
At night the local authorities announced that the rain had caused a 20-meter crack in the Yihetan Dam in Loyang city also added that the dam could collapse at any time.
Authorities sent a division of the People’s Liberation Army of China to the site to fight the floods and to rescue them. The Zhengzhou airport authority has announced that all types of services have been suspended from 8:00 pm on Tuesday to 12:00 pm on Wednesday. Zhengzhou’s flood control headquarters said that water storage at the Guojiazui reservoir is at “High risk” of dam failure and the local government was ordering clearing the dam’s water.
